The Artist Mark Antonio Edwards is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His fascination with art began as early as three years old. With crayons and a heaping zest of the imagination, he created worlds and images that tamed his venturesome spirit, and peaked the interest of those who watched him blossom. In middle and high school, he developed a strong interest in comic books, which in turn influenced his artwork. He created an interesting mix of super heroes, villains, and mythical creatures. His dedication and love of creativity won him numerous awards and honors--not to mention favor with his peers, who often commissioned him to do portraits and sketches. In college, Mark fine tuned his natural talent, and expanded his scope of subject matters. His specialty became figure drawing, but he also dabbled with painting, sculpture, photography, and digital art. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a BFA in Visual Art & Design, and continues to take classes to further his knowledge. His style is a hybrid of surrealism, fantasy, and mythic art. Many of his central figures appear to be tortured souls crying out for recognition and redemption. Their point-blank faces, piercing eyes, and the haunting landscapes that envelop them offer a wide realm of interpretation and debate. Sharp, sporadic brushstrokes, and fearless use of color also characterize his work. Many of his compositions are abstract renderings.
Mark's most recent accomplishments include an exhibition with the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (September 8-October 1, 2005), and designing the cover art for his sister's novel, Backwaters, published August 2005.
Mark continues to develop his talent, enter contests, and participate in festivals. He aspires to some day soon work in the field of animation.
